The Holmes Group Bursaries to Support Skilled Trades

The Holmes Foundation, established by renowned contractor and television personality Mike Holmes, is dedicated to providing financial support for students pursuing careers in the skilled trades. Recognizing the increasing need for highly trained professionals in construction, electrical work, plumbing, and other essential trades, the foundation aims to alleviate financial barriers and encourage students to complete their academic training at Canadian colleges, universities, and trade schools.

For decades, The Holmes Group has been a strong advocate for skilled trades, working tirelessly to elevate industry standards and encourage new talent to pursue trade-based careers. The Holmes Foundation, founded in 2006, serves as a major pillar in this mission by offering scholarships and bursaries to students demonstrating passion, commitment, and excellence in their chosen trades. The foundation’s goal is to bridge the skilled labor gap by supporting the next generation of tradespeople through financial assistance and industry mentorship opportunities.

To date, over 155 Make It Right® Scholarships and bursaries have been awarded to students across Canada. These awards help offset the costs of tuition, tools, and other educational expenses, ensuring that aspiring tradespeople have the resources they need to succeed. The scholarships and bursaries are open to students enrolled in accredited trade programs and are awarded based on merit, financial need, and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in their field.

Mike Holmes has long been a vocal supporter of skilled trades professionals and continues to champion inclusivity in the industry.

“Anyone who works in the trades is already a hero to me – girls, boys, young, old. Because the work isn’t easy, it’s underappreciated, undervalued, and bottom line, it’s tough work that requires even tougher skin. But every time I go to a tradeshow or trade school, and I see more and more women there, interested, engaged, and dedicated to doing the best at what they do, I’m hopeful about where this industry is headed.” – Mike Holmes

Applications for these bursaries are currently open for Canadian students. Those interested in applying are encouraged to do so here. By supporting students financially, The Holmes Foundation is fostering a new generation of highly skilled and well-trained tradespeople who will contribute to the industry’s growth and innovation.
